What you’ll do
As a Graduate Developer you’ll develop reliable and highly flexible systems in the market. The kind of software that ensures we buy and sell faster and more efficiently than anyone else. You will have full responsibility for the entire SDLC. You’ll be responsible for designing and optimising our systems, both technically and functionally to improve our trading success.

At Optiver we have no shortage of interesting and important work to do, so rest assured that you’ll be working on something that will add real value to the business. Some of the things you could be involved in are:
• Exchange connectivity software & Auto Trading related projects (C )
• Trading client GUIs or Middle Office systems (C#/.NET)
• Tools to aid development and management of our systems (C /C#/Python)

What you’ll learn 
You will receive up to 3 months’ intensive and robust training in our Sydney office before relocating to Shanghai. Your on-the-job training includes: 
• A one-on-one experienced mentor who will show you the ins-and-outs of how our trading systems are developed and how they work.
• The opportunity to rotate across a range of teams within Development before deciding the right spot for you. 
• Options training to get you up to speed on our business. This is run by experienced traders and is designed to give you an insight into what it’s like to trade. You will even have the opportunity to do some simulated trading.
• Experience our agile environment by taking part in our annual innovation days
• Attend weekly DevTalks to hear what exciting projects your colleagues are working on
• The ‘getting started @ Optiver’ training module. This will give you the information, tools and resources you need to do your job. By the end of your first week, you’ll be able to set up a generic Optiver trading environment, from back-end software to GUI client’s ongoing modules specific to your team.

The difference with IT at Optiver is how fast the pace is, and the direct impact it has on Trading. Where traditional software development teams can take months or years to build systems from business requirements, we can do hundreds of releases each month with new trading features.

Who you are 
You are a final-year/Honours student or a recent graduate (graduated in the past two years) with a Distinction/High Distinction average in Computer Science, Computing or Software Engineering, with a firm grasp of OO design and development concepts. Experience in Linux, Networks, multi-threaded programming, .NET and databases would be a plus, but are not essential.

What you’re like
You are a creative person who’s brilliant at making smart decisions and even better at communicating them. You’re a natural problem solver and love nothing more than tackling a complex problem. Some might say you’re pedantic, but you just care about the finer details. You are passionate about software and not only like to learn about it at University, you like to get involved in your own projects at home too. You’re always looking to learn and improve and love working with like-minded peers.
