What you’ll do 
In an environment where milliseconds are too slow, we need our systems performing at their peak, all day, every day. As a Trading Systems Engineer, your work takes place in the production environment where you are custodian to the systems that drive Optiver’s core business.

From the software that places orders direct to the market to the trading front-end, you’re in a unique position where you have strong end-to-end understanding of how these components operate as one. When you’re entrusted with delivery of game-changing ideas, squeezing microseconds out of the hot path and coordinating incident responses, your goal is flawless execution on every occasion.

Whilst this is not a development or systems admin role, it incorporates elements of both. You’ll often find yourself on the trading floor as a trusted advisor to the business on operational decisions. Taking the best of both worlds, you excel in taking real business problems and solving them with cutting edge technology.

You will receive up to 3 months’ intensive and robust training in our Sydney office before relocating to Shanghai. You’ll be well equipped to liaise with traders. You’ll learn about market operations, trading concepts and strategies and how that translates to the technology that makes Optiver’s business tick.

Who you are
• You are a penultimate/ final-year/ Honours student or a recent graduate (in the past 2 years).
• You come from a quantitative degree background with High credit or Distinction average in Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering , Information Technology, Information Systems or Software Engineering.
• You speak / write / read fluent English & Mandarin

You’re a technologist at heart and crave the challenge of learning how things work under the hood. You don’t shy away from the intricate low level detail and love to get your hands dirty with technology. You emanate good customer service, have strong communication skills and have an air of confidence about you. You are a critical thinker when it comes to troubleshooting and analysis. You recognise the smallest of details and patterns, leave no stone unturned and ask all the right questions. You’re always looking for better ways to do things and you don’t take no for an answer. You’re a dynamic player and have the ability to think on your feet. Pressure situations don’t intimidate you – they bring out your best.
