About Philips Research East Asia (PREA)
Philips Research East Asia (PREA) has been established in Shanghai since the y

Job description Principal Scientist for Chronic disease cluster

Principal Scientist for Chronic Disease

Responsibilities
Lead a cluster of up to 12 (senior) scientists, working on research and develo
pment of biomedical equipment for diagnosis and treatment of chronic disease (
cancer, stroke). Prevention of the disease, and follow up after treatment in t
he form of personal disease management devices, are also topics to be addresse
d.
Within the cluster several projects are executed by dedicated multidisciplinar
y project teams. These teams work together with universities, other scientific
institutions and hospitals.
You give direction to the work in the cluster. You are responsible for the hig
h quality of scientific results from the cluster. You are to coach the people
in the cluster to help ensure their optimal performance.
The principal scientist reports to the Director of the Healthcare department.



Requirements
Excellent research experience in the field of biomedical science, biophysics o
r clinical physics, as demonstrated by having obtained a PhD degree. The PhD d
egree should be supported by publications in renowned international journals.

Excellent track record in medical industrial research or clinical research, as
evidenced by publication of patents.
Candidates should have done experimental research, or having experimentally ve
rified their theoretical models.
Excellent experience in leading research teams.
Experience in developing biomedical equipment.
Drive, entrepreneurial behaviour, result and quality driven. People focus.
Excellent communication skills. English language skills to at least CET level

Job Description Signal Processing Algorithms

Senior scientist Signal Processing Algorithms

Apply your detailed knowledge on signal processing to research and develop new
solutions to support independent living of elderly or at risk patients. Resea
rch is on how to extract meaningful information from sensor signals and to int
elligently act on this information to provide a reliable support system to the
patients. The initial focus is on signal processing to support activity monit
oring but later interpretation of biosignals will be included. In addition to
the ability to develop novel algorithms to interpret and act on sensor signal
data, the candidate must be able to understand the context in which the signal
processing algorithms are deployed in order to ensure that the complete syste
m is optimized for the patients benefit.
Take a leading role in defining the algorithms and prototyping a complete solu
tion to demonstrate the value of the signal processing algorithms to end patie
nts. Interface with colleagues from business units to ensure that the solution
s defined are aligned with market requirements.

Requirements
Excellent research experience in the field of signal processing, as demonstrat
